Welcome to the website of the largest community service organization in Rappahannock County. We love being here in Rappahannock, we're proud to be Lions, and we are privileged to serve our community. This year -- 2011-2012 -- we are celebrating our 53rd anniversary in Rappahannock County.

We have been blessed in so many ways. We live in a great county, in a great country, surrounded by the marvels of nature and by strong, caring neighbors. It is only right that we try to give back to this community. And that is what we do, as Lions.

The Lions are made up of our community leaders - men and women, officials and businesspeople, democrats and republicans and independents. Many of our members are retired, but all of them are active. We don't wear uniforms, we don't have secret handshakes, we don't play politics. We are guided and united by two simple principles - we care about our neighbors, and we work as a group to do those things we cannot do alone.

The power of organized good. That is the goal of Lions worldwide. And that is why our motto is "We Serve!"

We contribute our resources (money or time or both) to the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, to 4-H, to the camp for cancer kids (Camp Fantastic), to the Relay for Life, and to the County Social Services Department, to name a few. We take our vision van to all of the County schools (public and private) to test children for hearing and sight, and we offer glasses or hearing aids to anyone unable to afford them. We provide college scholarships for worthy students, provide funding for worthwhile educational programs, organize and run the annual Bland Music Contest, and support a number of athletic associations for kids. We improve the homes of people who are unable to do so themselves, and we contribute generously to the Department of Social Services and other organizations that help those who need it. We recently provided scoreboards for the school athletic fields. We mentor the Leos at the high school, so that the spirit of serving will continue in future generations.

Importantly, every dime we collect in fundraising goes to these community efforts. There is no overhead. All of our expenses for meetings and events are paid from our dues. So, if you help us, you will know that your hard-earned dollars are working for the community and going further than through any other charity!

Please look around our website and learn about us. We've tried to provide complete and useful information about our County chapter and about the International Lions in general. If you need our help, click here or on the link to the left that says "Do You Need the Lions Help?" We can't fulfill every request, but we have a pretty good record of success.

If you think that you too are blessed and want to give something back to the community, contact us and attend a few of our meetings. We meet at 6:30pm on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Sperryville Fire Hall. We'd love to meet you.
